Extension Activities 2023-2024

The College organizes and participates in various extension activities with the objective of sensitizing students about various social issues and also for strengthening their social responsibility by reaching out to the community. The activities are undertaken mostly in collaboration with government and non-government organizations. The college has a registered society BCM OJASS (Outreach Joint Action to Strengthen Society) for undertaking welfare programmes for students in the college and community outside. This year also OJASS has undertaken educational programmes for tribal children. The extension activities are undertaken by individual departments, NCC, NSS, college union and various clubs. The NSS unit regularly conducts programmes which provide food to the inmates of Navajeevan Trust and other destitute homes. They also conduct environment protection programmes, blood donation camps, women empowerment programmes, campaigns on different topics and programmes to foster community engagement.  Apart from NSS, many departments also visit nearby special homes for elderly, differently abled and children with special needs and undertake different programmes. Departments have conducted many programmes useful for the community using the classroom knowledge.  Programmes for the protection of environment, campaign against plastic were initiated by many departments. The Social Work Department has conducted various programmes for aged people (Saphalam Sayahnam 15th edition), Effective communication and stress management awareness programmes for various school Children and Drug Abuse awareness and mental health awareness campaign to public were other programmes. Walk for freedom was an initiative of the social work department, a campaign against human trafficking. The Department of English has conducted Language Lift, a programme to enhance the language skills of the school children. Department of Physics, in collaboration with Breakthrough Society, Kottayam has conducted Sun Spot Observation for the students and public and science awareness programmes for the nearby schools. Department of Botany has contributed indoor plants to the District Hospital, Kottayam. Department of Zoology conducted various programmes to spread awareness in the protection of nature and environment, and conducted an exhibition on Museum Specimens to the school students and public. The Department of Chemistry has made a campaign to check the water quality of the neighbourhood community.NCC unit has conducted a number of programmes include Swach Bharat Mission, Blood Donation Drive, Voter Id registration Drive, Awareness Rally Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking etc. The department of Commerce helped the public by a programme called Income Tax Clinic which helps in filing income tax return. The college continues to conduct outreach programmes to  support the students and the public.
