Report on the Mental Health Class
The Department of Home Science organized an engaging Mental Health Awareness Class. The session was led by Dr. Sr. Remya M.J., Head of the Department of Home Science. Instead of a typical classroom session, the programme included a series of interactive games designed to foster relaxation, cooperation, and teamwork among the students.
The first activity was an individual challenge where students were asked to make a ring with paper using only one hand. This simple yet tricky task encouraged creativity, patience, and problem-solving skills while also giving students a chance to laugh and relieve stress.
The next was a team game in which groups of five members were given a bangle, rope, and a ball. The challenge was to balance the ball on the bangle using the ropes and move it from one point to another. This activity tested coordination, patience, and collective effort, showing that success could only be achieved when all members worked together.
Another team-based activity involved cutting a sheet of paper to make the longest possible strip. This game encouraged students to think strategically, improve focus, and practice teamwork and communication to maximize their output.
The session concluded with a guided meditation, which helped participants calm their minds, practice mindfulness, and reflect on the importance of mental well-being in daily life.
Overall, the class proved to be highly refreshing and effective. By combining games with mental health awareness, students not only learned valuable lessons but also experienced the importance of teamwork, cooperation, and relaxation in maintaining a healthy mind.
Report on Women and Health Seminar
A seminar on the topic “Women and Health” was organized by the Department of Home Science on 11th August at Sr. Savio Hall. The session was led by Dr. Sudha, Gynecologist, Government Hospital, Kottayam, who shared her insights and expertise with the students and faculty.
The seminar began with a formal welcome, followed by the introduction of the resource person. Dr. Sudha, in her talk, highlighted the importance of women’s health across different stages of life, emphasizing the need for awareness, timely medical care, and lifestyle modifications. She spoke in detail about common health issues faced by women such as anemia, nutritional deficiencies, reproductive health concerns, and lifestyle-related disorders.
She also stressed the significance of early diagnosis and preventive measures, underlining the role of diet, exercise, and mental well-being in maintaining good health. The interactive session that followed allowed students to clarify their doubts, making the seminar both informative and engaging.
As part of the programme, the department also introduced a new product, “LactoNova – Natural Nourishment for Mother and Child,” developed under the HOMIE initiative. Designed to support healthy lactation, LactoNova is made from nutrient-rich natural ingredients like fenugreek, oats, flaxseed, sesame, ragi, ginger, and jaggery. Rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals, it promotes digestion, boosts immunity, and enhances maternal and child well-being. Free from artificial additives, it provides a safe and effective nutritional supplement for lactating mothers, aligning with the theme of breastfeeding week.
The seminar concluded with an interactive session and a vote of thanks. The event proved highly beneficial, creating awareness among students while also highlighting the department’s innovative contribution towards women’s health.
Report on the Association Inauguration
The Department of Home Science celebrated the inauguration of its association on 11th August with much enthusiasm and joy. The programme was held at Sr. Savio Hall and witnessed the presence of faculty members, students, and distinguished guests.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Sudha, Gynecologist, Government Hospital, Kottayam, who officially inaugurated the association. On this memorable occasion, she also unveiled the name of the association, “Vajra”, symbolizing strength, resilience, and brilliance. In her address, Dr. Sudha highlighted the significance of home science in promoting health, nutrition, and overall well-being, and encouraged the students to use their knowledge in service of the community.
Following the inauguration, the Oath-Taking Ceremony was conducted. The office bearers and members of the association solemnly pledged their commitment to work sincerely towards the growth and success of the department’s activities.
The programme also featured a Merit Day celebration, during which the rank holders of the previous academic years were honoured and appreciated for their hard work and achievements. This recognition served as a motivation for the current students to strive for academic excellence and set higher goals for themselves.
Once the official ceremonies concluded, the stage came alive with a cultural programme organized by the students. The event showcased a variety of performances including songs, dances, and skits, reflecting the creativity and talent of the department. Report on Chart Exhibition
On 6th August, the Department of Home Science arranged a chart exhibition on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week. The exhibition was organized at 10:10 a.m. on the patio of the college and was intended to make people aware of the advantages of breastfeeding for the mother and infant.
The charts, designed by students of the department, addressed a broad array of issues regarding breastfeeding. These covered the significance of breastfeeding in maintaining maternal and child health, the immune and nutritional value of breastmilk, and how breastfeeding aids a baby’s development and growth. One of the most captivating aspects of the exhibit highlighted the shifting hues and consistency of breastmilk throughout the passage of time, as well as its ability to shift composition and adapt to the baby’s needs at various stages of infancy.
Students employed innovative designs, pictures, and brief descriptions to present the information in a way that was accessible and engaging. The charts also handled general misconceptions concerning breastfeeding and advocated for exclusive breastfeeding during the initial six months of life, as advocated by healthcare organizations.
The event brought out students, teachers, and members of staff from different departments, and they were pleased to see the efforts and education they received. It provided a platform for real discussion and learning about a subject that is usually neglected or misconstrued.
The program effectively blended academic information with social consciousness. It not only enabled students to convey their know-how via visual aids but also promoted health education among the college population.
In general, the chart display was an informative effort that benefited from the mission of World Breastfeeding Week. It did succeed in promoting awareness and emphasizing the significance of breastfeeding as a natural and necessary procedure for the well-being and health of children and mothers alike.

A vibrant fashion show titled “Ramp Royal” was conducted on 11th July 2025 at 10:30 AM in the college patio. The event showcased the creativity, confidence, and talent of our student participants, turning the patio into a glamorous runway.

Report on Illustration Chart Exhibition
The Department of Home Science organized an Illustration Chart Exhibition on July 10th as part of the World Fashion Day celebrations. The event took place at 10:10 am on the college patio, drawing enthusiastic participation and appreciation from students and faculty members.
The exhibition featured a variety of fashion illustrations, all creatively designed and hand-drawn by the students of the department. Each chart showcased a unique theme, including traditional attire, modern fashion trends, and innovative design concepts. The students used their imagination and artistic skills to express their understanding of fashion through visuals.

Report on Paper Bag Distribution
On July 3rd, the Department of Home Science organized a Paper Bag Distribution campaign to mark International Plastic Bag Free Day. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and promote the use of eco-friendly alternatives.
As part of the campaign, students of the department made handmade paper bags using eco-friendly materials. These bags were thoughtfully designed and prepared with care, reflecting the students’ creativity and commitment to sustainability. On the day of the event, the students, visited the Kottayam market and distributed the paper bags to local shopkeepers.
The shopkeepers appreciated the initiative and expressed willingness to reduce plastic usage in their daily transactions. The campaign not only encouraged the use
of sustainable alternatives but also allowed students to engage with the community in a meaningful way.
The event was a step toward promoting environmental responsibility and reducing single-use plastics. It also highlighted the department’s dedication to combining academic learning with social and environmental action.
REPORT ON CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

Occasion: International Yoga Day
International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2025 with immense enthusiasm and optimism. As per the situation and in order to invite maximum participation, the event was held virtually. Students did yoga from the comfort and security of their homes and made their contribution by posting videos of their yoga.
The festival was undertaken with the objective of making people aware of how physical and mental well-being can be promoted through yoga. Students were urged to undertake several asanas, breathing exercises, and meditation.
All the videos submitted were edited together to form a group video presentation that reflected the unity and energy of all the participants. The digital celebration not only encouraged a healthy lifestyle but also drew attention to the flexibility of the community in continuing with traditions and wellness activities even when online.
The program was a huge success, and it helped create a sense of oneness, tranquility, and awareness among everyone. It reminded everyone that yoga is not an exercise but a way of life that cultivates harmony between the mind and body.

Overview:
As part of the celebration of the precious relationship between children and their fathers, there was a special photoshoot contest held on June 15, 2025, to commemorate Father’s Day. The competition, “Then vs Now: A Bond Through Time,” called upon contestants to recreate a childhood photo with their dad, reminiscing about how time has passed and about the strength of their relationship despite the passing of time.
Theme:
The project promoted creativity and sentimentalism as participants were requested to pick an old childhood photo with their father and re-create it as closely as possible today. The side-by-side photos were great reminders of love, progress, and shared special moments over the years.
Participation:
The competition witnessed keen interest from our college students, who eagerly availed the opportunity to pay tribute to their fathers in a creative and poignant manner. The competition became a poignant process of rediscovery, enabling students to reminisce about their development and the changing relationship with their fathers.

Conclusion

REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

Title of the Skit: “അവൾ പഠിക്കട്ടെ”
Overview:
As a part of the celebration of International Day Against Child Labour on 12 June 2025, our students created a meaningful skit video entitled “അവൾ പഠിക്കട്ടെ” (Let Her Learn). The skit was to increase awareness regarding child labour and the right of every child to education and a secure, healthy childhood. The narrative revolves around a 12-year-old girl, Chinnu, who is driven into labour but is ultimately rescued through the efforts of local community members.
Story Summary:
The skit narrates the life story of Chinnu, a young child who is forced to work in a factory as her family cannot afford it. Her life is one of struggle and exploitation by the owner of the factory. There is a companion child worker who partakes in her unspoken pain. The turning point arrives when a watchful panchayat member finds out about Chinnu’s condition and, with the help of three committed social workers, intervenes to put an end to the injustice. They join together to confront the factory owner and make sure Chinnu is released, in the end managing to get her back to school and reclaim her right to childhood.
Characters:
- Chinnu – The 12-year-old girl, focal point of the story
- Co-worker – Another kid in the factory, depicting solidarity during adversity
- Factory Owner – Symbolizes the exploitation of poor children

Objective & Impact:
The major aim of “അവൾ പഠിക്കട്ടെ” was to bring about the significance of the abolition of child labour and the provision of the chance for every child to learn and develop in a secure environment. The skit has become well-received among the college population for its powerful message, genuine performances, and social significance. It initiated debates on campus regarding child rights and the combined role of society for safeguarding them.
Conclusion:
അവൾ പഠിക്കട്ടെ was not merely a skit—it was a cry on behalf of children like Chinnu, whose voices are seldom heard. Our students did not just show creativity and collaboration in this project but also profound social consciousness and responsibility. The video is a moving call to action: to allow every child to learn, live, and dream freely.
REPORT ON ORCHID GARDEN

As a part of the Environment Day celebration, the Department of Home Science made a remarkable attempt towards promoting environmental sustainability and awareness by developing a lively Orchid Garden within the department premises on 11th June 2025.
The project was designed to promote a greater appreciation of plant diversity, particularly the stunning beauty and ecological significance of orchids. The garden was professionally selected by the students and faculty and features an array of diverse orchid species that are renowned for their vibrant colours, patterns, and fragile forms.
The ceremony was opened by the Department Head, stressing the significance of nature stewardship and the role to be played by schools in protecting nature. Students were engaged to personally plant, organize, and tag the orchids, and acquire first-hand experience in gardening and environmental friendliness.
Conclusion:
This green initiative not only added to the aesthetic appeal of the department surroundings but also served as a living classroom for students to learn about plant care, conservation, and Sustainable living. The orchid garden stands as a reminder of the department’s commitment to Environmental responsibility and education.
An Awareness Session on Nutrition and Life Style Management

As part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, the Centre for Women Empowerment, in association with the Department of Home Science, BCM College, organized an insightful awareness session on Nutrition and Lifestyle Management. The session was held on Thursday, 6th March 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Sr. Savio Hall. The primary objective of the session was to create awareness among women regarding the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition and wellness practices. The resource person for the session was Dr. Surabhi Lenin, BHMS, QHHT Practitioner, Certified Counsellor in Child Psychology, and Vice President of IHMA, Kottayam District. Dr. Surabhi Lenin, with her vast experience and expertise in the field of health and wellness, provided valuable insights on the importance of a balanced diet, the role of mental health in overall well-being, and practical strategies for managing a healthy lifestyle. The program commenced with a formal welcome by a faculty member Dr.Anila.H.L CWE Coordinator, The Department of Home Science. The resource person, Dr. Surabhi Lenin, then took over the session, emphasizing the significance of consuming a nutritious and balanced diet to maintain physical and mental health. She highlighted the importance of including locally available fruits and vegetables, traditional food items, and a balanced combination of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats in daily meals. Dr. Surabhi also stressed the need for regular physical activity, quality sleep, and stress management techniques to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.
An Awareness Class on Reproductive Health

As part of the Women’s Day celebration, the Department of Home Science, in association with the Centre for Women Empowerment, organized an awareness class on Reproductive Health. The session was conducted on Thursday, 6th March 2025, from 12.30 PM to 1.30 PM at Sr. Savio Hall, BCM College, Kottayam. The program aimed to create awareness among young women about the importance of reproductive health, addressing various aspects of women’s physical and mental well-being. The resource person for the session was Dr. Rajalekshmi S.R, BAMS, MS Ayurveda, who is currently serving as the Project Medical Officer at the Prasoothi Streeroga Roga Department, Government Ayurveda Hospital, Changanasseri. Dr. Rajalekshmi, with her profound knowledge and expertise in Ayurveda, provided valuable insights on reproductive health, emphasizing the need for women to prioritize their physical and emotional well-being. The session commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr.Reeja.P.S CWE Coordinator who highlighted the significance of organizing such informative sessions, especially in connection with International Women’s Day. Following the welcome address, Dr. Rajalekshmi began her session by emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle to ensure good reproductive health. She elaborated on the role of nutrition, personal hygiene, regular exercise, and stress management in promoting overall well-being.

CELEBRATING VALENTINES DAY WITH ELDERLY

M.Sc. Child Development students celebrated this Valentine’s Day with interns of
shanthibhavan old age home on February 14, 2025, at11:00 a.m. The students interacted with
the elderly and conducted cultural activities to entertain them. We also served food to the

Nutritional Awareness Class for Rural Women

The Department of Home Science, BCM College, successfully conducted a Nutritional Awareness Class for Rural Women on 17th January at 10:00 AM at Athirampuzha Grama Panchayat, Kottayam. The session aimed to educate and empower rural women with essential knowledge about balanced diets, healthy eating habits, and the importance of nutrition in maintaining overall well-being.
VISIT TO ST. JOHN OF GOD

MSc Child Development students visited St. John OF God Special School Annadivayal,
Velloor on 7 th October 2024. This centre functions to promote wellbeing and rehabilitation of
mentally challenged and creating awareness in society and among families on their duties and
obligations in caring the people with special needs.
VISIT TO SH BEHAVIOIURAL SCIENCE REASEARCH CENTRE (SHBSRC)
KOTTAYAM

MSc Child Development students visited behavioural science department of SH Medical
Centre hospital, Kottayam on 20 th February, 2025 at 11:00 am. The purpose of the visit was to
understand the counselling process and functioning of a counselling centre. Students interacted
with Psychologists and therapists of the centre and gained more practical knowledge.
TEACHING PRACTICE AT URBAN AND RURAL SCHOOLS

As part of the academic curriculum, the 1st-year M.Sc. Child Development students conducted
a teaching practice program from 10th to 20th November 2024 at two different schools—CMS LP
School in Kottayam (urban) and Parassinikkadavu UP School in Kannur (rural). The initiative aimed
to provide students with hands-on experience in early childhood education while understanding the
differences in teaching methodologies and learning environments in urban and rural settings.
CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS

On 14th November 2024, the 1st-year M.Sc. Child Development students organized a vibrant
Children’s Day celebration at Parassinikkadavu UP School. The event aimed to encourage
creativity, self-expression, and cultural appreciation among children through various
competitions and activities. The celebration began with a drawing competition, where students from different age
groups participated enthusiastically. The theme was My Dream My World allowing children to
express their imagination through colours. Participants showcased their artistic skills with
unique and meaningful drawings. Winners were selected based on creativity, originality, and
presentation, and prizes were distributed to encourage their talents.
AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON LEARNING DISABILITY

MSc Child Development students conducted an awareness programme for mothers of
preschool children on 19 th September 2024, at Choodupara anagnawadi, Wayanad District.
Students had taken sessions on types of learning disability, identification and early intervention
of learning disability. The session was very informative and enhanced parents knowledge on
learning disability in children. Leaflets were distributed at the end of the awareness class.
WORLD DISABILITY DAY CELEBRATION

As part of the world disability day, the students of MSc in Child Development decided to visit a
disability centre and conduct cultural programme on December 3,2024, at 3 p.m. The students
interacted with the residents and conducted cultural activities to entertain them.
INTERNSHIP IN RAFEL MULTIREHABILITATION CENTRE

As part of the MSc Child Development curriculum, second year students interned at Rafel
Rehabilitation Centre for child development from 14th October to 14 th November2024.The
interns participated in sessions and observed various remedial teaching, special education, Play
therapy, speech therapy and occupation therapy. Interns got an opportunity to guide children with
autism, intellectual disability, chromosomal abnormalities and ADHD in their therapy sessions.
Workshop on Automated Embroidery Machines – Merritt

The Department of Home Science, BCM College, Kottayam, successfully conducted a one-day workshop on automated embroidery machines – Merritte on October 24, 2024, at the Department of Home Science. The workshop aimed at introducing students and faculty members to the latest advancements in computerized embroidery technology, offering them hands-on experience in operating automated embroidery machines.
The session commenced with a formal welcome address by the faculty coordinator, who emphasized the growing importance of automation in the textile and fashion industry. She highlighted how automated embroidery has revolutionized the field by enhancing precision, efficiency, and design versatility. The workshop was designed to equip participants with technical skills and practical knowledge to integrate modern embroidery techniques into their creative pursuits.
NATIONAL SEMINAR

As part of World Mental Health Day 2024, department of Home Science (M.Sc. Child
Development) conducted a National Seminar on October 9 th 2024, on “Role of Emotional
Intelligence in Managing Stress and Health”. Chief Guest of the Programme was Dr. Naveen
Varghese from District Ayurveda Hospital, Vayaskarakkunnu. The seminar was Inaugurated by
Fr Philmon Kalathara (Director, Self–finance,). The Welcome speech was given by Mrs. Anu
Grace Chacko (Programme Coordinator). The Felicitation was Given by Principal Dr. Stephy
Thomas. Dr. Sr. Remya (HOD) of the department was given the Presidential address and vote of
thanks was given by Mrs. Sona P Manoj (Student Coordinator). Around 100 participants from
various departments and Colleges have attended the National Seminar. The programme was held
at EduTheatre of BCM College Kottayam at 2.30 pm.
AWARENESS CLASS ON LEARNING DISABILITY

As part of curriculum the students of MSC Child Development, BCM COLLEGE KOTTAYAM
conducted an awareness Programme on learning disability among children. The students took the
awareness Programme in rural area for Mothers of school going children in Parayakadavu,
Alapadupanchayath, Kollam District on 28, September2024. Approximately 45 mothers of
school going children participated in the programme. The students had taken sessions on
prevalence of learning disability, types of learning disability, causes and prevention and special
education measures. Leaflets were distributed at the end of the programme.
Awareness Class on Family and Parents Attitude in Shaping a Child’s Personality

On 20th September 2024, students of MSc Child Development conducted an awareness
class at Parassinikkadavu Anganwadi on the crucial role of family and parental attitudes in shaping
a child’s personality. The session aimed to educate parents and caregivers on the impact of their
behaviour, communication, and values on a child’s emotional, social, and cognitive development.
Inauguration of ‘Floral Onam’ Exhibition by HOMIE Fashion




The Department of Home Science, BCM College, Kottayam, through its fashion initiative HOMIE Fashion, organized an exquisite exhibition on the theme ‘Floral Onam’ on August 30, 2024, at the college patio. The event was a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and creativity in fashion and design. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Abraham Parambett, Manager, BCM College, Kottayam, in the presence of faculty members, students, and esteemed guests.
In his inaugural address, Rev. Fr. Abraham Parambett appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Home Science in blending tradition, nature, and artistry into a visually stunning exhibition. The grand event took place on August 30, 2024, at the college patio, bringing together faculty, students, and distinguished guests to celebrate the launch of this new venture.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Abraham Parambett, the esteemed Manager of BCM College, Kottayam, who officially inaugurated HOMIE Fashion. In his address, he emphasized the importance of fashion as an evolving field that blends tradition with modernity. VISIT TO VIANNEY CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

IInd MSc Child Development students had visited Vianney Child Development Centre,
Cherppunkal on 30 th August 2024. The purpose of the visit was to understand different
assessment methods for children with learning disability. Senior special educator has explained
every assessment methods in detail. The visit has helped the students to understand different
assessment scales and techniques to handle children with learning disability.
National Girl Child Day – Poster Making Competition


As part of National Girl Child Day, the post graduate students of MSc Child Development
organized a poster-making competition on January 24, 2025.The Theme of the competition was
‘Empowering Girls for a Bright Future.’ The event took Place in Room 28 at 1:00pm. Around 15
students from various departments participated in the programme. Aryanandha and Elizabath (1 st
year students) from the department of Home Science secured first and second positions
respectively and Kaveri S, from the department of commerce secured third position.

As part of World Breast feeding week 2024, MSc Child Development students organized an
awareness programme on the theme “Closing the gap: Breast Feeding support for all”. The
programme was conducted at general hospital Kottayam on 6 th August 2024. Many pregnant and
lactating mothers attended the programme. The students had taken sessions on benefits of
breastfeeding and positions of breastfeeding and also distributed leaflets for the participants.
Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation
The Department of home Science in association with Equal Opportunity Cell in collaboration with SC/ST Cell, OBC Cell, and Minority Cell of BCM College, Kottayam, organized an awareness class on Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation on January 10, 2025, at 12:30 PM in the Edu Theatre. The session aimed to educate students and faculty members on the importance of safeguarding children from sexual abuse and exploitation while highlighting the legal and psychological aspects related to the issue. The session commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Coordinator of Equal Opportunity Cell, who emphasized the significance of such awareness programs in educational institutions.
Following this, the resource person, Ms. Anu Grace Chacko, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Kottayam, initiated the discussion by defining child sexual exploitation, its different forms, and its impact on victims. She explained key aspects such as understanding the role of family, educators, and society in prevention, Legal frameworks such as the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012) and Support mechanisms available for victims. Ms. Anu Grace Chacko engaged the audience with real-life case studies and interactive discussions. She highlighted the responsibilities of teachers, parents, and community members in identifying potential threats and ensuring children’s safety.
The session concluded with a Q and A session, where participants raised pertinent queries regarding child protection laws and real-life intervention strategies. The speaker addressed these concerns with valuable insights. On behalf of BCM College, Coordinator of Equal Opportunity Cell delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating Ms. Anu Grace Chacko for her enlightening session and thanking all participants for their active involvement. The awareness class successfully met its objectives, leaving the participants with enhanced knowledge and a sense of responsibility towards ensuring the safety and well-being of children.



World Food Safety Day Awareness Program

The Department of Home Science, BCM College organized an awareness program on sustainable food safety practices and career guidance in food safety in India on the occasion of World Food Safety Day. The event took place on June 8, 2024, at 10:00 AM and aimed to educate students and faculty on the significance of food safety, its sustainable practices, and the various career opportunities in the field. The session was graced by Mr. Goureesh P. K., Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety (Retired), Trivandrum, who served as the resource person for the event. His vast experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of food safety provided valuable insights to the attendees. He elaborated on sustainable food safety practices, highlighting the importance of hygienic food handling, prevention of foodborne diseases, food preservation methods, and the role of regulatory bodies in ensuring food safety. He also stressed the need for responsible consumption, reduction of food waste, and adopting eco-friendly food packaging solutions to promote sustainability.
World Environment Day Celebration

The Department of Home Science, BCM College, celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm as part of an IGMaH Initiative on June 5, 2024. The event was centered around the theme, “Save the Future by Planting More Trees – We Are on Our Way,” emphasizing the crucial role of afforestation in combating environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity. The event commenced at 11:00 AM in the Home Science Department premises, with faculty members, students, and staff coming together to participate in the green initiative. The objective of the program was to spread awareness about the importance of tree plantation and to encourage sustainable environmental practices within the college and beyond.
RESIDENCE COURSE
As part of the curriculum the department of Family And Community Science had conducted a one week residence course for the third year students. Home Science is the study of basic life science and arts. It helps the students to adjusting with various situations in a home and community.As the term denotes residence course is like a home stay for the students with the aim to develop various skills. The course lasts from 14-02-2022 to 18-02-2022. There were 27 students in total and they were divided into two groups. Each day various duties were assigned for each group and they were monitored by the assigned teachers. On 17 February a lunch party were arranged for the teachers and non- teaching staffs of the college. The food and other arrangements were done by the students themselves. The residence course was end on 18 February with an evaluation session and it was reported to be beneficial and enjoyable.


NUTRITION AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR YOUNG GIRLS
Dr. Sr, Remya M J invited as a resource person in a program organized by NSS of BCM College and handled a session on nutritional awareness named ‘Nutriture- Hopes and Barriers’ on 10/01/2022.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AND MERIT DAY
Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. The day started with the inauguration of the merit day. Merit day was celebrated to recognize those students who secured top grades in examination. The programme started at 10 am in college auditorium. The qualified students got appreciated during the programme.
The FACS Department at BCM College, Kottayam organized a Christmas celebration on the afternoon on December 23. The meeting was officially inaugurated by the head of the FACS Department Dr.Sr. Remya and shared the Christmas message with the students. After that the beautiful song of the first-year students beautified the stage. There was also a dance by Pg and Ug students. That programme was a huge hit with the audience. It came to a close with the National Anthem.

INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR
The Department of Family And Community Science, BCM College conducted an International Webinar in connection with World Mental Health Day on 12/10/202. A survey was conducted on October 8 for whole college on behalf of world mental health day. The webinar began with a prayer song followed by a welcome speech by HOD Dr. Sr. Remya M.J. Dr. Steffy announced the inaugural address as well as the felicitation. The webinar was taken by Dr. Angelina M. Julom (University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippians) on the topic ‘Impact of Social Media on Mental Health of Youth’. During the interaction section, the students cleared their doubts. Miss Sreelakshmi thanked everyone on behalf the department. The webinar ended with the national anthem.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION
Department of Family And Community Science, conducted a poster making competition in connection with World Mental Health Day on 11/10/20201. The final year students individually prepared posters which contain information about mental health and related thoughts. All the posters were displayed later. Cooperation of all the departments has enhanced the quality of this program.


INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR ELDERLY
As part of International Day of Elderly October 1, 2021, the Department of Family And Community Science conducted a selfie contest ‘Selfie with grand ones’. A day for grandparents, who are confined to a room that most people do not pay attention to. A nice selfie photo with your grandparents back then, was the content. A total of 3 entries were received. The concise entry was selected by a panel of judges consisting of Sr. Dr. Remya M.J., Miss Sreelakshmi, Miss Preseetha and Miss Annina. The winners are listed below:

OLD AGE HOME VISIT
On the International Day of Elderly, the Family and Community Science Department along with Dr. Sr. Remya M. J. conducted an online old age home visit. The visit was to Sneham old age home at Kottayam. The students spent quite some time with the residents. It was a different experience for the students as well as the residents.


VYKHARI INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR SERIES-2K21

In connection with the International Webinar series VYKHARI – 2021 organized by IQAC & Research Cell, BCM College, on September 30, the Family and Community Science department had also hosted a webinar. Dr. Nygil Thomas (Assistant professor, Department of Chemistry, Nirmalagiri College, Kannur) took a lecture on the topic “NANOTECHNOLOGGY FOR FUTURE ENERGY CHALLENGE (BASED ON RESOURSE MANAGEMENT). The session was from 3pm to 4pm. Aiswarya Warrier, one of the 3rd DC FACS students anchored the session from the beginning to the end of the webinar. The webinar began with a prayer to god. Then the HOD of the FACS department, Dr. Sr. Remya M J welcomes the resource person and all those who came to participate in the webinar. The class which lasted for an hour was very useful. In the interactive session after the class, the students asked their doubts and that was cleared effectively by the resource person. After, Sreelakshmi A S, Guest Lecturer, FACS Dept conveyed the Vote of Thanks to everyone who had became the part of the webinar. The webinar comes to an end with the National Anthem.


TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION -MEMORIA
Teachers are the ones who recite the first letters of knowledge and raise their hands into the world of letters. A man of good character is the result of the discipline of many teachers. Therefore everyone will have a favorite teacher. On Teacher’s Day SEPTEMBER 5, 2021 Department of Family and Community Science conducted a program named “MEMORIA”, which really focuses on sharing a sweet and memorable moments about their favorite teacher. We made that as a competition connected with Teacher’s day celebration. A total of 7 entries were received. The winners were chosen by the teachers of the FACS department.

Another Onam had passed without any commotion, cheers or games. The SYNERGIA association of Family and Community Science has organized a huge virtual Onam celebration for students during this Covid period. The competitions organized were Malayali manka competition, pookalam making comprtition and onam message writing competition. The students participated in the competitions very well.

Even today, it is better for men and women to dress uniquely in Kerala style than in any other style. Therefore, no Onam is complete without a Malayali manka completion. During this covid period, the Department of Family and Community Science organized a Malayali Manka competition for students virtually. A total of 30 entries were received for this competition. WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK
In conjunction with the Breast Feeding Week, from August 1 – August 10, students of Family and Community Science held a variety of events.
They were :
ONLINE QUIZ to find out how many students know about breast feeding.
Picture captivates the human mind more than anything else, and painting is a skill. As such, the PENCIL DRAWING COMPITION is designed to convey the best message of breastfeeding through the art of drawing and to promote the ability of students,
There was also a WEBINAR on the topic “Is Breastfeeding a Taboo”. The students had the best participation in all the above competition.

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY
Students of family and community science organized a webinar in associated with World Hepatitis Day on 28/07/2021.The event began with a prayer song sung by Anu Luke. Shima welcomed everyone who became a member of the webinar. Dr. Hephzibah Issac lectured on the topic ‘Hepatitis Free Future’. Many topics were discussed including the causes and symptoms of hepatitis. After the class, the head of the family and community science department, Sr.Dr.Remya M J reviewed the class and participants took the opportunity to clear their doubts. Afterwards, Gopika Suresh the president of the association Synergia, thanked everyone and concluded the webinar. Shihna Shihab anchored beautifully from the beginning to the end of the webinar.

WORLD POPULATION DAY
• Family and Community Science Department organized a caption writing competition on world population day 11th July.
• The second year students made a video on the pros and cons of population growth.
