A Lecture on Indian Poetics

An interactive session on Indian Writings and Poetics was organised by the English Association on 6th and 7th June,2021 .The resource person was Dr. Sreekanth K N and the session was mediated by Dr.Phiona Elizabeth Joshy.

Elocution Competition

As part of observing National Doctor’s Day, the Department of English has conducted an elocution competition on 28 July,2021.

An Introduction To SOGIESC

The Department of English in association with the Queerythm, has organised an interactive session on topics like Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Characteristics as a part of observing the Pride Month on 29th June 2021 at 11 am via Google Meet. The Resource person Mr.Prijith P K, is a Researcher, SOGIESC Trainer and the President of Queerythm LGBTIQ Community,Kerala.

Reading Week Programmes

As part of observing the Reading Week [June 29 to June 25, 2021], the Department of English has conducted : An Inter Departmental Quiz Competition, A Book Review Contest, Introduce Your Favorite Author Competition and Know the Genre Programme.

Official Inauguration of the Association

The Inauguration of The English Association 2021-2022 was conducted on 1st July 2021 at 10 am via Google Meet. The Chief Guest was Mr. Vijay Babu, the renowned Actor and Producer. The English Association was named Adira, meaning Strong and Powerful.

World Paper Bag Day

The Department of English has organized a challenge where students participated by making paper bags.

Book Club Meeting

The Department of English organises Book Club Meetings at the end of every month.

Aparecium National Level Treasure Hunt

A National Level Online Treasure Hunt based on Harry Potter Literary Series was organized on August 1,2021.

Vox Pop Newspaper

The Department of English has released its official newspaper, Vox Pop on 6 August 2021. It documents the activities and the achievements of the department.

Perfect Okay Shorts

The Department of English releases pronunciation short videos every month to improve english speaking skills.

Teacher’s Day

The Department of English has observed Teacher’s Day to celebrate and honor the teachers.

Virtual Career Pathway

The Department of English organized a career guidance class focusing on the opportunities in fashion,designing and technology on 7 September 2021. Resource person for fashion was Ms. Antara Bhattacharya,for  animation was Mr.S Boobalan and for interior & architecture design was Ar. Gopika P Manoj.

Introduction to Research

A Research Methodology class was organized by the Department of English on September 15, 2021 from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Ms. Aneha Hepzibah Solomon , Faculty of the English Department.

Poetry Writing Competition

In connection with the World Ozone Day, a Poetry Writing Competition was conducted by the Department of English on 21 September 2021.

Vykhari Lecture Series

As part of the Vykhari Lecture Series, the Department of English has conducted a seminar on the topic : Challenges of Diaspora Identities, on 22 September 2021 at 10:30 am via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Dr.Anjana Warren who teaches at the Humanities and Language Division/Intercultural Studies and Languages of Mahidol University International College, Salaya, Thailand.

Smrithi 3.0

Celebrating the Cultural Heritage of Kerala, the Department of English has organized Smrithi 3.0 on 4 November 2021. It included three programmes :

Digital Poster Making Competition

In connection with the World Cancer Day, a Digital Poster Making Competition was conducted by the Department of English on 10 February 2022.

Caption It – Caption Writing Competition

In connection with the Youth Day, a Caption Writing Competition was organized by the Department of English on 16 January 2022.

Seminar on ‘An Introduction to Menstrual Cup’

The Department of English organized a seminar on ‘An Introduction to Menstrual Cup’. Ms. Liz Jaimon Jacob was the resource person.

Christmas Celebration

The Department of English celebrated Christmas on 23rd December 2021.The students and teachers were able to feel the real spirit of Christmas through various programmes organized under Feliz Navidad.

The Department of English,in association with Aksharasthree,organized  an online poetry competition for the students of BCM College,Kottayam.

Femme de Talent Series

On 02 February 2022, The Department of English organized a webinar on how to star an online business. Ms.Sandra Mathew,an entrepreneur, was the resource person.

The Department of English organized a Research Forum for the students of 3rd DC Model 1 and Model 2 on 01,02 & 03 March 2022.

National Webinar and Paper Presentation

The Department of English organized a National Webinar and Paper Presentation on ‘Folklore and History: New Intersections’. The resource person was Ms.Yanbeni Yanthan, Assistant Professor of English and the webinar was held on 03 March 2022.

Penma- Women’s Day Celebration

The Depatment of English celebrated Women’s Day in association with ‘Aksharasthree, on 08 March 2022. Mr. Joshy Mathew (Film Director), Mrs Nalini Sreedharan (Renowned Writer and Social Activist), Ms. Harshita (Film Star) and Mr. Thekkinkad Joseph ( Director, School of Journalism,  Press Club and Writer)  were the Chief Guests.Prize distribution of the Poetry Competition organized by The Department of English and Akshara Sthree also took place. The meeting witnessed the Directory Release and the Book Release by Mrs. Ambili  M and Mrs  Margaret George.

Paper Presentation- Literature and Culture was organized by the Department of English on 12th March 2022 by the students of PG.

Content Writing

A Seminar on Content Writing was organized by the Department of English on 12/03/2022 at 11am via Google Meet. The Resource Person was Ms. Ramya Jagannadhan, Senior Technical Writer, Straive.

Visit to Santhi Bhavan

The Students of 2nd DC English M1, in association with Women’s Cell, visited the Santhi Bhavan and provided them with essentials as a part of the Extension and Social Service activities.

Celebrazione 2022

The Department of English, BCM College, Kottayam, continuing the legacy of our literary fest,this year the 8th edition of CELEBRAZIONE took place as an online fest on 19 March 2022. We provided the participants a platform to showcase their Metamophosis(the theme of our fest) and to unfurl their wings.

Chrysalis: Release of the Department Magazine

The Manuscript magazine of the department, CHRYSALIS , was released on 21 March 2022 by the head of the department, Dr. Riya Susan Scariah. CHRYSALIS is to be viewed as a launch pad for the children’s creative urges to blossom naturally.

VoxPop 4.0

The Communication and Journalism students of the English Department will conduct The Media Fest, Voxpop 4.0, on 26th March 2022. VoxPop 4.0 will be a platform for all to express and discover passions in Media.

Activities – English Department

The Art of Being an Artist

The Department of English organised a session with Dr Devisree S, UAE on The Art of Being an Artist via google meet. It was held as part of the Femmes de Talent Series where we introduce women of talent to our students .The participants benefitted from the talk which concluded with a practice session on art.

Family Bonding Through Reading Sessions

Students of  English engaged in reading aloud stories, poems, articles etc to their family members during lockdown.

E-discourse

BOOK PUBLICATION

Ms Ponnu Liz Malieckal published a book on Language and Linguistics, which is an achievement as there was a lack of a proper text for linguistics.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

On the 4th of July, 2018, the English Association hosted an international seminar on Clinical Psychology. Mr. Shibu Karippai, chartered counselling psychologist and director from Therapia Consultancy, London, United Kingdom, was the keynote speaker

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON TRANSLATION STUDIES

An international seminar on Translation Studies was organised on 5th of July 2018. Mr. Derek Johnston from Ireland was the key note speaker. He is a Senior Translation Consultant for West and Central French speaking parts of Africa. He is also currently involved in Wycliff Bible translation. Trained in Linguistics, he spoke about his experience of working on an unwritten language in West Africa.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON THE PUBLIC INTELLECTUAL

The post-graduate department of English organized a National Seminar on the 3rd of August, 2018.The seminar was on the topic ‘The Public Intellectual’. The Keynote Speaker was Dr.VinodBalakrishnan, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities, National Institute of Technology, Thiruchirappally, Tamil Nadu.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The English Association organized a National Seminar on ‘How To Prepare and Read A Research Paper’ on the 4th of September, 2018.The keynote Speaker was Rev.Sam Koshy who is a research scholar in the university of Berns, Switzerland.

WORKSHOP ON MLA 8th EDITION

The department of English organised a workshop on the topic ‘MLA 8th edition styling and formatting’ on the 21st of January 2019.This session was lead by Mr. Bibin Thomas, Assistant Professor at MBC college of Engineering and Technology, Kuttikkanam and is also a certified HRD trainer of MINDS training academy.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMME

In connection with the breast cancer awareness month, Pink October, the department of English in association with Dr.Shiny Rauf and Ms. Shivani Jain conducted a breast cancer awareness programme along with a Zumba training session on the 11th of October, 2018.
