HoD’s Message
For the last six decades, the department of Economics of BCM College has played a crucial role in imparting Economics knowledge to a large number of young women. Guided by the motto ‘nurtured to empower’, the department creates a platform for the overall development of the budding economists. The department gives a homely atmosphere to the students by providing individual care and attention. Most of the activities of the department are centred on society and the environment.
Along with the systematic coverage of the prescribed syllabus, the department encourages industrial and field visits, organises lectures, arranges skill enhancement programmes, etc., to make the students excel in their careers and lives. National and State level workshops organised by the department enable the students to impart knowledge from eminent academicians and encounter people from different walks of life (Check the Activities page of Economics Department).
The Social Responsibility Forum of the department is very active, and we do commendable activities which are highly beneficial to society. Every year, as a standard practice, the department conducts an evaluation of the union and state budgets. Economics is one of the most vibrant subjects in modern times, and it offers many employment opportunities. Along with traditional courses such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and International Economics, applied economic courses like Quantitative Techniques, Econometrics, and Mathematical Economics open the doors to research with statistical insights for students.
The adoption of the honours programme under FYUGP enables multifaceted opportunities. Together with Economics, students can opt for double major or minor programmes in Psychology, Statistics, Sociology, History, English, and Mathematics. In our College, we offer the BA Economics Honours programme with a specialisation in Economics and Data Analysis. The syllabus includes highly relevant and contemporary courses, such as Data Analysis using Python, Fintech Enterprises, and the Economics of Artificial Intelligence. Primarily due to the relevance of the subject, the department’s placement intake during the campus placement drive of the College is commendable. Last year’s outgoing batch of Economics students was placed in companies such as Accenture, TCS, ICICI, and K12 Techno Services.
Our Economics programme provides training to students for pursuing careers in government services including IAS, IES and IFS, banking and finance, research consultancy, teaching, management and marketing fields.
We invite you all to start the journey of Economics with us.
