Sr. ALPHONSA COOKING COMPETITION

Desert Making Competition

As part of Sr. Alphonsa cooking competition the department of Family and Community Science had conducted a desert making competition named “SUGAR SHACK ” on 21st January 2021.

FLOWER ARRANGEMENT CLASSES

The department of Family and Community Science had conducted a flower arrangement classes as part of curricular activities. It was an attempt which aims on our future. Flower arrangement is a skill and you will be paid for your time and talent. It helps women to earn an extra income for their effort.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

The department of Family and Community Science organized some competition as part of Christmas celebration named “BLIZZARD 2020” in inter-departmental level. Many students are participated in the competitions.

WORLD PERIODS DAY CELEBRATION

The department of Family and Community Science organized a caption wrting competition in malayalam,comment corner competition and a creative photography competition named as “Red baron” as part of World periods day celebration on 19th October 2020.The winners of the competition are as follows:

As part of world food day, students of Family and Community Science organized competitions in interdepartment level on 16th October 2020.They are Food photography and Cake making competition .The winners of the competition are as follows :

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY

Webinar :“Mobilizing To Support Mental Health

The Department of Family and Community Science had conducted an online webinar on the topic “mobilizing to support mental health”.The programme was held on 9th October 2020 at Google meet by the resource person Ms. Karthika Elizabeth,Faculty in department of psychology, K.E .College Mannanam. This class was very interesting and informative.

Webinar : “A Brain Break”

The students of Family and Community Science department conducted an online webinar named “A brain break” on the topic mental health on 8th October 2020 at Google meet. This webinar was lead by Dr. Sreelakshmi .S,BAMS .It was an informative class.

It’s Ok to be not Ok

As part of World mental health day department of family and community science organized a programme named “It’s OK to be not OK” on 4th -10th October 2020. This programme includes an interdepartmental quiz competition on mental health, poster making competition,on theme ‘kindness’ and speech competition on topic ‘mental health matters’.

TEACHER’S DAY CELEBRATION

The students of Family and Community Science department organized a programme as part of Teacher’s day celebration on 5th September 2020 at 3 pm on Google meet .The programme starts with prayer by Ms. Anjelin J S from 3rd year .Ms. Hasna Anwar of 3rd year warmly welcomed everyone to the programme. Then a video which includes teacher’s day wishes from students including former students was presented in the function. After that respected HOD Ms. Indu Abraham share her thoughts about teacher’s day and thanked the students for the wishes. Another which includes the photographs of teachers were presented. The other faculties also share their happiness with the students. Ms. Alka Fathima from 3rd year conveyed the thanks to everyone .

ONAM CELEBRATION 2K20

Virtual Onam celebration of Family and Community Science was held 28th August 2020 on Google meet. The celebration started at 10.00 AM .The programme was anchored by Ms. Thea Brijit Shaji .The programme started with prayer by Ms. Sreelakshmi J K .Ms. Aileen Taji warmly welcomed each and everyone .Then a video which include ‘onam wishes from celebrities’ was presented. After that presentation respected HOD Ms. Indu Abraham shared her words about Onam .A throwback video with previous year celebrations made everyone nostalgic. For the Malayali manka competition which held in the department won the first prize by Ms. AnugrahaShaji from 2nd year .Ms. Athira Ashokan from 2nd year and Ms. Reshmi Reghu from 3rd year got 2nd and 3rd position. Then a Dance video by 2nd year students was presented followed by an Onam song by Ms. Devipriya from 2nd year .Then Ms. Anakha , former student of the department share her memories and Onam wishes in the programme.After that an Onam video made by 3rd year students was presented . Then after the teachers interact with the students about virtual Onam. Finally Ms. Hasna Anwar from 3rd year conveyed the vote of thanks to everyone present in the function.

CORONAM 2K20

As part of Onam celebration , department of Family and Community Science organized competitons such as Onam brain thug Quiz , Maveli kazhchakal Digital drawing competition and Smile please selfie with Onam on interdepartmental level from 24th-30th August .Ther were several participants for the competitions. First prize for Maveli kazhchakal digital drawing competition goes to Ms. Sarimol P Irshad from Department of Commerce.

ASSOCIATION INAUGURATION CYNOSURE 2K20

The inauguration of association of this academic year 2020-21 held on 27th August 2020 through Google meet.The honoured Chief Guest Ms. Gowri Krishnan, cine artist officially inaugurate the function and revealed the name of the association as ‘CYNOSURE’ .The newly elected Secretary Ms. Sona Ann Lukose warmly welcomed each and everyone to the function . Ms. Gowri Krishnan addressed the audience and interacted her experiences and view points with the students.
Followed by newly elected office bearers took in-charge by taking oath before respected HOD Ms. Indu Abraham. The association members of ‘Cynosure 2k20-21’ academic year are as follows.

BREAST FEEDING WEEK CELEBRATION

The department of Family and Community Science organized a webinar on 8th August 2020as part of breast feeding week celebration. In this webinar Dr. Parvathy Unnikrishnan shared her views and ideas on the importance of breast feeding .Along with this webinar .Along with this, second and third year students of the department created an awareness video about breast feeding .
As part of breast feeding week celebration Pg students of the department conducted a programme named “Lollipop” which included Drawing, Story Telling , Speech competition.

PARENTS DAY SPECIAL PHOTO CONTEST

As part of Parents Day celebration the students of Family and Community Science department conducted an Online Parents Day Special photo contest on 16th-26th July 2020. The topic for the photo contest was “A throwback to better times and better memories”. Mr. Abhijith Ajukumar and Ms. Aishwarya Warrior M won the contest and received the certificates

ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The department of Family and Community Science conducted an Online Animal Photography Competition on7th-16th June 2020 .The topic for the competition was “Let us create a world where animals are not products”. In this competition Smera Jagath won the first prize .Anna Susan Varghese and Ayana Arun got second and third position and they received the certificates.

WEBINAR “HEALTHIFY ME: HEALTH CARE AND LIFESTYLE IN 2020”

The department of Family and Community Science conducted a webinar on 10th June 2020 on the topic “Healthify me : Health care and lifestyle in 2020” .The webinar was lead by Dr. Harikrishnan ,Anjaneya Ayurveda Hospital kottayam .

WEBINAR “UPDATE TO OUR BEST VERSION

The Family and Community Science department conducted a webinar on 9th June 2020. This webinar was lead by Ms. Maria Shaji, Research scholar at St. Teresa college Ernakulam .In this webinar , she explained the topics “update to our best version(self improvement techniques)” and “survival of the fittest(preparing to grab the dream job)” .

WEBINAR “BECOMING A HOME SCIENTIST”

The department of Family and Community Science conducted a webinar on 8th June 2020 in Google meet platform .In this webinar Ms. Maria Shaji , Research scholar at St. Teresa College Ernakulam shared her views on the topic “Becoming a Home Scientist”. She discussed advantages and career of the subject Home Science.

ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION

As part of world environment day, the students of Family and Community Science department produced a video on 5th June 2020 which includes the photographs of the students who were planting trees and herbs in their house premises .The respected HOD Ms. Indu Abraham planted a tree in the college campus.

QUARANTINE TALENT HUNT CONTEST (Inter department)

The department of Family and Community Science conducted a talent hunt contest in interdepartment level on 21st-26th April 2020 in continuation of intercollegiate talent hunt contest .Four competition were conducted as part of the contest .
i. Cooking competition : Won by Ms. Shivarenjini from Department of Botany
ii. Poster making Competition : Won by Ms. Malavika from Department of Computer science
iii. Drawing competition : Won by Ms. Malavika from Department of Computer science
iv. Slogan writing competition : Won by Ms. Remi Susan from Department of social work
The winners received the certificates also.

QUARANTINE TALENT HUNT CONTEST (Inter College)

The department of Family and Community Science conducted an online quarantine talent contest during lockdown in intercollegiate level on 13th-15th April 2020.The programme was named as “Jovenos Talentos 2K20” .There were several participants for the contest. Mr. Josephin Cyriac got the first prize and Mr. Fredy K Subash was the runner up. They received the prize money of Rs.1000 and Rs.500 respectively.

Environment day

Department of Family and Community science conducted various activities such as distribution, planting of saplings and a flash mob presentation as a tribute to early farming culture of Kerala as part World Environment Day on June 5th.

FAZEEN 2K18

The department of Family and community science conducted an interdepartmental ‘hijaab draping’ competition on 9 th June 2018 as a part of Eidul-fitr celebration.

BREAST FEEDING WEEK 2K18

The department of Family and Community Science collaborated with ICDS and conducted a flash mob and a chart exhibition on 8th September 2018 as a part of International breast feeding week celebration . The programme was held at Mamman Mappila Hall Kottayam

FLOWER ARRANGEMENT EXHIBITION AND VEGETABLE CARVING EXHIBITION

The third year students of the department of the Family and community science conducted a fresh flower arrangement exhibition on 4th October 2017 in front of the Auditorium. A vegetable carving exhibition also included at the occasion.



PAYASA POLIMA 2K18

The department conducted an intercollegiate payasam making competition as part of onam celebration on 14 th August 2018 at the nutrition lab of the department. The contest was inaugurated by Smt. Josephina Simon, our respected principal of BCM College. Among ten teams participated-St.Terasa’s College Ernakulam secured first prize of 4000/-.CMS College Kottayam secured second prize of 3000/- and Assumption College Changanacherry secured third prize of 2000/-

Teach Yourself how to make a cotton cloth mask

Here’s your own Teacher Ms. Praseetha PS of Family and Community Science Department giving you a video tutorial on making cloth masks. She will be walking you through two videos: one for those who know how to use a sewing machine & the other for those who can use basic hand sewing stitches. Our college aims to trigger self sufficiency by encouraging students and staff to make sufficient masks for ourselves for the days ahead.
